Pennywell is proud to hold Best Sustainable Business South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards, National Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award and Green Business of the Year in the Herald Express Business Awards.
We are proud to be a leading environmentally friendly business and below are just some of the ways that we run our award winning Devon Tourism Attraction with the environment in mind:
Solar Powered Pennywell
194 solar panels on the roof of Noahs Barn and an impressive solar tracker means that the attraction is completely self sufficient for power.
The Pennywell Ponds
The ponds are fed from run off water from the car parks and barn roofs which filters through a reed bed system. They are teaming with wildlife for visitors to discover while pond dipping.
Beyond Pennywell
Information boards on the farm give ideas of how to help the environment at home. See below for some fun and sustainable ways to welcome wildlife to your home:
All grown at Pennywell, the willow has been used to create sustainable attractions and activities. Weave your way through the willow maze to enjoy the stunning views from the watchtower.
Activities such as plant a pot, meet the hedgehog and goat milking inform visitors of the ways people use crops and livestock as well as how we can support our native wildlife.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Pennywell is involved with local, national and international charities, supporting the work of the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network (THHN), Children and Families in Grief, Time for Families and the Barn Owl Trust. Pennywell has also supported a youth worker in the town of Buckfastleigh and donates thousands of pounds a year in tickets to local schools and charitable organisations.
